MONGLA, July 23 (V7N) — National Citizen Party (NCP) southern region chief organiser and Cumilla-4 lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah has alleged that an abduction incident in Mongla marks a return of enforced disappearances after 2024, calling it a “dark chapter” for the BNP government.
Speaking at an NCP “July March” programme on Wednesday night in Shafiullah Road area of Mongla municipality, Abdullah said the interim government had recommended forming a commission on enforced disappearances, but the BNP, despite making commitments, had taken a position against the initiative.
“Currently, the system from the Hasina era still exists in the country. The BNP government has carefully maintained the Hasina-era structure,” Abdullah claimed.
He also criticised the government over its handling of accountability issues, saying many leaders and activists of the BNP had themselves faced persecution and repression in the past.
At the event, NCP southern region joint chief organiser and reserved women’s seat MP Dr Mahmuda Mitu said the party has two major aspirations — ensuring justice for those who lost their lives and bringing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh to face punishment.
“We want justice for our brothers who were killed. We also want Sheikh Hasina, who is allegedly making conspiracies from Delhi, to be brought back to Bangladesh and face the law,” she said.
During the programme, Hasnat Abdullah introduced NCP southern region joint organiser Molla Rahmatullah as the party’s mayoral candidate for Mongla Port Municipality.
NCP central joint member secretary Faridul Haque, joint conveners Sarwar Tushar and Ali Ahsan Junaid, along with local leaders Mridha Majedul Islam, Abu Hasan, Md Zubair, Zahid Hasan and Md Sohel, were also present at the event.
