Dhaka, Aug 15 (V7N)- Recently former BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that late BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia played a key role in establishing the BNP as a democratic political party.

He made the remarks at a prayer mahfil held at the BNP central office in Paltan on Saturday (August 15) morning to mark Khaleda Zia's 82nd birthday.

Mirza Fakhrul expressed his determination to uphold Khaleda Zia's political ideals and protect the country's independence and sovereignty.

Speaking at the programme, BNP Standing Committee member and Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said the principles and ideals of the party's uncompromising leader cannot be forgotten simply because the BNP has come to power.

The party's senior leaders recalled Khaleda Zia's political role and said she had refused to bow to political pressure during the long period of Awami League rule.

They urged BNP leaders and activists to follow her principles and contribute to building the country while preserving the democratic values she advocated.
