Munshiganj, August 20 (V7N)- Former Awami League minister Dr. Dipu Moni has been released on parole following the death of her husband, Taufiq Newaz.
Dipu Moni was released from Munshiganj Jail at around 6:15am on Thursday (August 20) under police security.
She left the prison in a police-escorted vehicle and later headed toward Dhaka.
According to sources, Dipu Moni has been granted parole for 12 hours, from 6am to 6pm on Thursday. Law enforcement personnel will accompany her throughout the period.
Dipu Moni’s daughter, Tani Deepaboli, met her mother at the jail on Wednesday afternoon. Later, she applied to the Munshiganj district administration seeking four days of parole for her mother. The authorities subsequently approved 12 hours of parole.
Dipu Moni’s lawyer, Gazi Faisal, said that after leaving the jail, she would go to Kalabagan in Dhaka, where the body of her late husband has been kept.
He said Taufiq Newaz had first met Dipu Moni at the Kalabagan residence. Preparations are subsequently being made for his funeral at Gulshan Azad Mosque, followed by burial at Banani Cemetery.
Dipu Moni was arrested from the Baridhara DOHS area of Dhaka on August 19, 2024.
