Dhaka, Sep 02 (V7N)- BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said gas supplies across the country are expected to return to normal within one to one-and-a-half weeks, describing the ongoing gas shortage as part of a broader international crisis.
He said the government is working to address the situation while prioritizing the interests of the people.
Rizvi made the remarks on Wednesday after planting saplings in the 300-foot area as part of a five-day tree plantation program organized to mark the BNP’s 48th founding anniversary.
He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has set a target of planting 250 million trees to help protect the country from the effects of global warming. Rizvi also described the BNP as an efficient political force in addressing climate change.
Earlier, speaking at a discussion at the National Press Club marking the Prime Minister’s 19th release anniversary, Rizvi said Tarique Rahman was working to return people’s resources to the people.
He cited initiatives such as the farmer card, family card and nationwide tree plantation program as examples of such efforts.
Rizvi claimed that since 2018, Tarique Rahman had been working to restore democracy by maintaining contact with people who had faced political persecution, from rural areas to cities.
He also accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government of undertaking mega projects while allegedly siphoning public funds abroad, claiming that some party leaders and activists also benefited financially.
Rizvi said criticism from opposition parties is part of democratic politics and claimed that no one is being forcibly disappeared under the current government.
“This is democracy,” he said, adding that Tarique Rahman’s five-year plan should be communicated to people across society, including students.
He said Tarique Rahman was following the path taken by his parents in their efforts to build the country.
