Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N)- BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said women and children were among the main victims of persecution, humiliation and indignity during the period of what he described as fascist rule.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (September 9) morning while paying tribute at the graves of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia at Zia Udyan in the capital, marking the founding anniversary of the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal.
Rizvi said the Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal had consistently protested against the persecution and oppression of women.
He further said women who expressed their views on social media during the Awami League's tenure were also subjected to various forms of harassment and persecution.
Describing attacks on women as an act of cowardice, the BNP leader condemned the recent assault on actress Azmeri Haque Badhon in Italy. He termed the incident, which he alleged involved Awami League activists, a heinous crime.
Speaking about the ongoing fuel crisis, Rizvi said the issue is part of a broader international situation and cannot be resolved by any single country alone. He expressed hope that the gas shortage would gradually ease.
Rizvi also said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken what he described as groundbreaking initiatives to expand overseas employment opportunities for Bangladeshis.
