DHAKA, Sept 13, V7N — The Dhaka University (DU) unit of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) today distributed awareness leaflets among students to promote dengue prevention and environmental cleanliness on the campus.
The programme was part of a nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday.
JCD leaders and activists distributed leaflets along the route from VC Chattar to the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC). DU Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas and General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon led the programme.
Earlier, JCD leaders submitted a memorandum to DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, urging the university authorities to strengthen dengue prevention and cleanliness initiatives.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (admin) Professor Mohammad Almojaddeddi Alfesani, Registrar Munsi Shams Uddin Ahmed and Estate Manager Fatema Binte Mustafa were present.
At a brief press briefing, Shipon said they had urged the university administration to conduct regular and effective campaigns on dengue prevention and environmental cleanliness.
He said the memorandum also called for the implementation of several demands raised earlier, including the installation of dustbins and regular cleanliness drives.
Sahas said JCD was carrying out various dengue prevention and cleanliness programmes and would provide voluntary support to any large-scale initiatives undertaken by the university or hall administrations involving students.
