Jhenaidah, Sep 25 (V7N)- Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has said his party accepted the results of the last national election in the greater national interest and in consideration of the aspirations of the July mass uprising.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Friday morning (September 25) after attending an organizational programme of the Jamaat-e-Islami Khulna Division unit in Jhenaidah.
Golam Parwar said the party accepted the election results despite reservations, describing the decision as one taken in consideration of the country’s broader interests.
He also claimed that statements from advisers to the interim government indicated that the election results had been manipulated. The allegation was not independently substantiated in his remarks.
The Jamaat leader alleged that the government had deviated from what he described as the aspirations of the July mass uprising.
He further claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami had cooperated with the government but that the government was interpreting such cooperation as a sign of weakness and responding with politically hostile statements and actions.
“Jamaat-e-Islami has been cooperating with the government, but the government views this as a sign of weakness and is making politically hostile statements,” Golam Parwar said.
Leaders and activists from different levels of the party attended the programme, including Jamaat members of Parliament from Jhenaidah and Kushtia.
