Dhaka, Oct 15 (V7N)- Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has alleged widespread irregularities and nepotism in the appointment of fertiliser dealers across the country, claiming that political affiliations have been prioritised over business credentials.
The party’s Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, made the allegations at an emergency press conference at Jamaat’s central office in the capital’s Moghbazar area on Thursday afternoon.
Parwar claimed that more than 47,000 applications had been submitted for fertiliser dealerships, but the government had selected preferred individuals through party letterheads rather than following a fair and transparent process.
He further alleged that party loyalists and individuals associated with the previous authoritarian administration had been appointed as dealers in exchange for money. The allegations were not independently verified.
The Jamaat leader also accused the government of seeking to establish authoritarian rule, alleging that the formation of a constitutional amendment committee while strategically excluding opposition parties amounted to a mockery of the public.
In another remark, Parwar criticised those who, he said, dismissed Jamaat’s activities as merely symbolic, alleging that such critics favoured violence and arson.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami announced that it would take organisational action against those involved in a clash between two groups in Cumilla. The party did not provide further details about the proposed action in the supplied statement.
