The general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, Obaidul Quader, stated today that the BNP is unable to recognise the progress of the nation because they perceive darkness in the brightness of day.

"Although Pakistan admires the development of Bangladesh, the opposition could not see the development as they [BNP] see darkness in the daylight" , he said.

The Awami League president Sheikh Hasina's political office in Dhanmondi was the venue of this afternoon's news meeting, when Quader, who is also the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, gave this statement.

The AL general secretary said that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is ashamed of Bangladesh's advancements and achievements and urged the BNP leaders to learn the actual lesson from his recent address.

Quader quoted the prime minister of Pakistan as stating, "Once East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, was a burden to them...but now it has made a lot of progress and I feel shame to see such development."

He said, "Since BNP usually produces propaganda, there are many real, true lessons for BNP to learn from the Pakistani Prime Minister's statement."

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, praised Bangladesh's economic growth in his remarks at a Thursday viewpoint-exchange meeting with business community members at the chief minister of Sindh province's house in Karachi.

"While 'East Pakistan' was considered a burden for the Pakistan, they now feel ashamed of Bangladesh's economic progress. However, they [East Pakistan, which is now Bangladesh] have achieved an unexpected advancement in industrial growth," Shehbaz Sharif stated in his speech.

The general secretary of AL emphasised the state of violence in the globe today, saying, "We are watching with concern that the Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Palestine-Hamas conflict has overheated the global situation."

He said the Israeli prime minister has begun an aggressive strike, disobeying the views of the world.

"Our leader Sheikh Hasina has taken a strict position against the war," Quader stated in light of the situation. He stated, "She urged world leaders to oppose all forms of aggression and to reject war."

Among those in attendance at the press conference were AFM Bahauddin Nasim, joint general secretary of the Awami League, organising secretaries BM Mozammel Huq, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossen, and Sujit Roy Nandi, health affairs secretary Dr. Rokeya Sultana, cultural affairs secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, deputy office secretary Sayem Khan, and executive member Shahabuddin Farazi.
