Dhaka, Sep 02 (V7N) - Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), departed for Singapore on Sunday night for medical treatment. He left Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a Singapore Airlines flight at approximately 11:55pm, as confirmed by his personal assistant, M Yunus Ali, in a statement to media.

According to Yunus, Fakhrul is set to receive treatment for several health issues, including a blockage in his neck. He will be consulting with two specialist doctors in Singapore, with appointments already scheduled.

Fakhrul is expected to return to Bangladesh on September 7. This marks his second trip to Singapore this year for medical reasons. His first visit occurred on March 4, when he spent 19 days in Singapore for treatment following his release from prison on February 15.

Initially, after his release, Fakhrul received medical care at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital but later sought further treatment abroad due to his delicate health condition.

Fakhrul’s health issues began in 2015, when an internal carotid artery problem was discovered during his imprisonment in a political case. He has since traveled to Singapore annually for follow-up treatments.
