Dhaka, Sep 16 (V7N) – Former Culture Minister and renowned actor Asaduzzaman Noor was arrested by the Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) late on Sunday night. Noor was taken into custody from Navartan Colony on Bailey Road at around 11 p.m., according to officials.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner of the Public Relations and Media Branch, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the arrest to reporters. He stated that Noor is an accused in a case filed at Mirpur police station. However, the specific details of the charges have not been disclosed.

Asaduzzaman Noor, a prominent political figure, served as a Member of Parliament for the Nilphamari-2 constituency from 2001 to 2024. He also held the position of Minister of Culture in the third cabinet of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Aside from his political career, Noor is widely known for his contribution to Bangladeshi television, having acted in over 110 TV films and serials. His cultural impact was recognised when he received the prestigious Freedom Award in 2018 for his significant contributions to the country's cultural heritage. He also served as the President of the Bangladesh Recitation Coordinating Council for an extended period.
