Colombo, June 25 (V7N) – Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar Das has joined an elite group by becoming only the 10th cricketer from the country to play 50 Test matches. He achieved the milestone during the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Liton, who made his Test debut against India in Fatullah in June 2015, marked the occasion with a composed knock of 34 runs off 56 balls in the first innings. His innings, laced with two boundaries and a six, took his overall Test run tally to 2,915—surpassing former national team captain Mahmudullah Riyad, who scored 2,914 runs in 50 Tests.

While Mahmudullah notched up 5 centuries and 16 fifties in his red-ball career, Liton currently has 4 centuries and 18 half-centuries to his name.

The 29-year-old now needs just 111 more runs to overtake another former captain, Habibul Bashar Suman, who amassed 3,026 runs in 50 Tests with 3 centuries and 24 fifties. If achieved, Liton will rise to fifth in the list of highest Test run-scorers for Bangladesh.

Topping the list is veteran Mushfiqur Rahim, who has scored 6,302 runs in 98 Tests with 12 centuries and 27 fifties.

Meanwhile, Liton Das has another opportunity to set a national record in this match. With 113 dismissals as a wicketkeeper—equaling Mushfiqur Rahim’s tally—he is just one dismissal away from becoming Bangladesh's most successful Test wicketkeeper.

All eyes will be on Liton as he continues to etch his name into Bangladesh cricket history.
