Monterrey, Jun 21 (V7N) – Japan marked a historic milestone in FIFA World Cup history with a commanding 4-0 victory over Tunisia on Sunday, as the tournament's 1,000th match ended in emphatic fashion at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico.

The victory saw the Blue Samurai produce one of their most dominant performances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Ayase Ueda scoring twice, while Daichi Kamada and Junya Ito each added a goal to seal an impressive win.

The FIFA World Cup, which began in 1930 in Uruguay with the opening matches between France and Mexico and the United States and Belgium, reached its landmark 1,000th match during the 2026 tournament, now expanded to 48 participating nations.

Japan wasted little time asserting their dominance. Midfielder Daichi Kamada opened the scoring in just the fourth minute with a clinical finish, giving the Asian side the perfect start.

The lead was doubled in the 31st minute when striker Ayase Ueda capitalized on a swift counter-attack, calmly finishing through the legs of Tunisia defender Montasser Talbi to make it 2-0 before halftime.

Japan maintained complete control after the break. In the 69th minute, winger Junya Ito burst past the Tunisian defence before firing home the third goal, leaving the African side with little chance of mounting a comeback.

Ueda completed his brace in the 83rd minute, finishing confidently from inside the penalty area after excellent positioning and precise build-up play to seal a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

The emphatic result strengthens Japan's position in Group F and further underlines the Blue Samurai's growing reputation as one of Asia's leading football powers. Their dominant display also ensured that the 1,000th match in FIFA World Cup history will be remembered as a memorable milestone for Japanese football.
