San Francisco, Jun 23 (V7N)- The Algeria national football team produced a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat Jordan national football team 2-1 in an exciting FIFA World Cup Group “J” encounter at Bay Stadium in San Francisco.
Jordan started the match brightly and put early pressure on the Algerian defense, creating several dangerous counter-attacks. Their efforts paid off in the 36th minute when Nizar Al-Rashdan scored a brilliant long-range goal to give his side a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
After the break, Algeria gradually took control of the game, increasing attacking pressure and dominating possession. Despite being behind for more than half an hour, the North African side responded with intensity and urgency.
The equalizer came in the 69th minute through Nadir Benbouali, who finished clinically after sustained pressure on Jordan’s defense.
With momentum shifting, Algeria continued to push forward, and their persistence was rewarded in the 82nd minute when Amine Gouiri scored the winning goal. Jordan failed to clear a dangerous corner, allowing Gouiri to calmly convert from close range and complete the turnaround.
Despite a spirited performance from the debutant side, Jordan were unable to recover from the late collapse. A defensive lapse in the closing stages ultimately cost them valuable points.
With this victory, Algeria strengthen their position in Group “J” and move closer to securing a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
