Monterrey, Jun 25 (V7N)- South Africa made history by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over South Korea on Thursday (June 25).
The historic win in Monterrey, Mexico, completed a remarkable turnaround for Bafana Bafana, who recovered from an opening-match defeat to book their place in the last 32 of the tournament.
South Korea, semifinalists at the 2002 World Cup, started the match brightly and created several scoring opportunities in the first half. However, the Asian side failed to convert their chances. South Africa also missed a number of promising opportunities as both teams went into halftime level.
