Darwin, Aug 14 (V7N)- Bangladesh made a solid start to the second day of the first Test against Australia, reaching 115 for 1 at stumps after starting the day on 96 for 1.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mominul Haque remained at the crease, carefully negotiating Australia's pace attack in the Darwin conditions. Bangladesh's only wicket was that of opener Sadman Islam, who fell on the opening day.
Earlier, Bangladesh's pace bowlers dominated the first day after Australia won the toss and elected to bat. The hosts were bowled out for 198 runs, with Hasan Mahmud leading the attack with a six-wicket haul.
Australia's openers Travis Head and Jake Weatherald initially played aggressively, but Hasan struck twice to put Bangladesh in control. Ebadot Hossain then removed Marnus Labuschagne.
Steve Smith survived a dropped chance when his catch was put down by Tanzid Hasan Tamim, but Taskin Ahmed soon dismissed Cameron Green to leave Australia struggling at 74 for four at lunch.
In the second session, Taskin removed Alex Carey and Beau Webster, while Smith top-scored for Australia with 71 runs. Hasan Mahmud then claimed the final four Australian wickets to complete his six-wicket haul and wrap up the hosts' innings.
Bangladesh now have a strong platform from which to build their first-innings total on the second day.
