Sheffield, Oct 15 (V7N)- Bangladeshi-born midfielder Hamza Chowdhury was sent off during Sheffield United’s match against Portsmouth after receiving two yellow cards within nine minutes, leaving his team with 10 players.
The incident occurred in the 44th minute of the first half of a tense contest between the two sides.
Hamza was involved in several challenges against Portsmouth players during the match. His dismissal followed a forceful body check on Portsmouth’s Ryan Kavuma, prompting referee Oliver Langford to show him a second yellow card, followed by a red.
The midfielder had received his first yellow card earlier in the match. His second booking just before half-time forced him to leave the field and return to the dugout.
The dismissal was a setback for Sheffield United, who had to continue the match with 10 players. Hamza is also expected to face a suspension for the team’s next match, subject to the applicable disciplinary rules.
