Brendan Mavutha and Wesley Madhevere, two cricket players from Zimbabwe, have been banned from playing any kind of cricket for four months. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board had already suspended them for drug use.
Following the inquiry, the country's board declared the duration of the ban. Following their admission of violating Zimbabwe Cricket's code of conduct, the two took the penalty. In addition to the suspension, the two players must pay a fine equal to half of their monthly salaries starting in January.
Early in December, they were part of the team during the home series against Ireland. Three T20Is were played by Madhevere. However, Mavuta participated in three ODIs in addition to the most recent T20.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 25, Zimbabwe Cricket claimed that the committee took several mitigating considerations into account while making the judgment. Both athletes apologized and pledged to discontinue the exercise.
The board further stated that throughout the embargo, their recovery will be managed by Zimbabwe's medical department. Additionally, they will get the chance to practice in the hyperperformance program.
Noteworthy is the fact that Zimbabwean all-rounder Mavutar made his debut wearing the uniform in 2018. For the nation, he has so far participated in four Tests, twelve ODIs, and ten T20Is. 2020 will be Madhever's international debut. He has worn the Zimbabwean jersey for two Tests, thirty-six ODIs, and sixty T20Is.
