Lahore, August 1 — Following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is looking to overhaul the cricket structure. A significant part of this initiative involves re-integrating legendary former player and coach Waqar Younis into the fold.

According to Geo News, Naqvi met with Waqar Younis to discuss the possibility of him joining the PCB either as a board director or as an advisor. The discussions are part of a broader effort to strengthen the administrative and strategic aspects of Pakistan cricket.

Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan's Union Home Minister, is finding it challenging to balance his responsibilities, especially given the current political climate in the country. With a potential role as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on the horizon, Naqvi aims to delegate cricketing responsibilities to experienced professionals.

Waqar Younis, 52, is a leading candidate to oversee international and domestic cricket, the selection committee, and player-related decisions. The PCB is keen to finalize this arrangement before the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to be held in Pakistan in August.

Waqar Younis has previously served Pakistan cricket in various capacities, including as the team's bowling coach and assistant coach across three different tenures. He was also the head coach on two occasions. His last role with the national team was as the bowling coach in 2019.

The PCB hopes that bringing in Waqar Younis will provide the necessary expertise and leadership to guide Pakistan cricket through a period of transformation and improvement.
