Dhaka, August 26 – A case has been filed against Kazi Salauddin, President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), and several others, including political figures and celebrities, for allegedly attacking the convoy of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The case was lodged by band singer Asif Imam at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, under Magistrate Zaki Al Farabi, on Sunday. The court has accepted the statement of the plaintiff and directed the Motijheel police to treat the complaint as a formal statement for further investigation.
The notable accused in the case include Sheikh Salim, Sheikh Helal, Colonel Farooq Khan, Fazle Noor Tapas, Said Khokon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, actor Zayed Khan, actor Shahriar Nazim Joy, Saju Khadem, and journalist Shaban Mahmud, among others.
According to the complaint, the incident took place during an election campaign on April 20, 2015. The accused allegedly attacked Khaleda Zia's convoy with weapons during a street meeting organized in front of the BNP office. The complaint details that the attackers vandalized 12 to 14 cars in the convoy, set fire to four motorcycles, and assaulted several BNP leaders and workers. It also mentions that Khaleda Zia's security guards were injured in the attack.
The court's decision to instruct the police to register the complaint as a formal statement signals the beginning of an investigation into the matter. The case has drawn significant attention, given the involvement of high-profile figures from various sectors, including politics, entertainment, and journalism.
