Dhaka, Sep 14 (V7N) – Kazi Salahuddin, the president of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for four consecutive terms since 2008, has announced that he will not participate in the upcoming BFF election scheduled for October 26.
Salahuddin made the announcement at the BFF building on Saturday. "I have served for four terms and feel incredibly fortunate to have had this opportunity. I will not contest in the BFF election on October 26. This is my final decision, and I came here today to announce it," the former football star said.
His decision comes after pressure from the Bangladeshi Football Ultras, a football supporters' group, which demanded his resignation following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. The group held two protests outside the BFF office and issued an ultimatum for Salahuddin to step down.
Initially, on August 13, Salahuddin had stated his intent to run for a fifth term, but has since reversed his decision and confirmed he will not seek re-election.
