Dhaka, Nov 03 (V7N)- Posts, Telecommunications, and IT Adviser Nahid Islam has called on mobile operators to reduce call rates and introduce unlimited internet packages, stressing these measures as essential for youth engagement and public interest. Nahid raised this issue in meetings with representatives from Robi and Grameenphone on Sunday at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications.

In the discussions, he highlighted the importance of the interim government effectively managing the transitional period. “If we navigate this period well, new opportunities will emerge for the country; failure, however, could lead to setbacks,” he stated. Nahid emphasized that recent protests have centered on employment issues, making job creation a top priority for the interim government.

"Reducing call rates and providing unlimited internet options are critical steps in addressing the needs and expectations of our youth," Nahid noted. He further expressed confidence that now is an opportune time for action in Bangladesh, thanks to the interim government’s public support and commitment to beneficial initiatives.

Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman shared a positive outlook on the evolving telecommunications sector, noting that increased open dialogue has marked a step forward for the industry. Robi’s CEO Rajib Shetty added that profit margins for operators have faced constraints over the last 15 years due to multiple commission-based layers within the industry.
