BEIJING, July 29 (V7N) – Chinese artificial intelligence startup Zhipu, now operating under the name Z.ai, has released its latest open-source model, GLM-4.5. Designed specifically for intelligent agent applications, the model aims to compete in the rapidly growing and competitive AI landscape in China.

The GLM-4.5 series includes a flagship 355-billion-parameter model and a 106-billion-parameter variant. Both use a mixture-of-experts architecture to reduce computing costs while delivering high performance. Z.ai claims GLM-4.5 surpasses existing open-source models in key benchmarks such as MMLU, GSM8K, and HumanEval, and boasts a 90.6% tool-use success rate.

The release follows growing interest in Zhipu’s development from global observers, including OpenAI, which has acknowledged the company’s growing influence in China’s AI ecosystem. Zhipu is supported by major investors and government bodies and is positioning itself as a leader in the country’s AI development efforts.

GLM-4.5 is available under the MIT license, allowing commercial use, and further establishes Z.ai’s push toward democratizing advanced AI tools amid intensifying global competition.
