Dhaka, July 29 (V7N) – The National Consensus Commission is moving swiftly toward finalizing the much-anticipated July Charter, with Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz stating that all issues agreed upon through dialogue must be resolved within the next few days.
Speaking on Tuesday during the 21st day of the second phase of discussions at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy, Professor Riaz stressed the urgency of concluding the charter by July 31. “Our task now is to finalize the issues that have emerged from our long and continued dialogue with the political parties,” he said.
A draft of the July Charter was handed over to party representatives during the 20th session on Monday, and Riaz urged all parties to submit their comments by Wednesday. “We are incorporating initial consensus points into the revised draft, which we aim to distribute today or tomorrow,” he added.
Professor Riaz also acknowledged the diversity of positions held by different parties and reiterated the commission’s commitment to reflecting those views in the final document. “Each party has its own viewpoint. We are working to merge these perspectives in a respectful and inclusive manner,” he said, expressing gratitude to the political leaders for their sincerity and patience.
A total of 30 political parties took part in Tuesday’s session, including BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Ganaodhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati Andolan, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party.
Prominent figures such as Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, and Dr. Md. Ayub Mia were present during the session, which was moderated by Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor.
Sources within the commission confirmed that dialogues will continue in the coming days to finalize unresolved issues and ensure broad-based political agreement.
