Dhaka, July 27 — Maintenance activities are currently underway at the Singapore end of the C-ME-4 submarine cable system, which was installed at Cox's Bazar. As a result, internet services through the circuits connected to the Cox's Bazar to Singapore route have been temporarily suspended.

Saidur Rahman, General Manager of Operations and Maintenance at the Bangladesh Submarine Cables Company Limited (BSCPLC), announced on Saturday that customers using this circuit might experience slower internet speeds until the maintenance is completed.

The maintenance work, which started near the Tuas Landing Station in Singapore, is being conducted to rectify a land cable fault. The consortium managing the C-ME-4 system expects to complete the work by 6 pm on Saturday.

Bangladesh's internet infrastructure relies on this first submarine cable in Cox's Bazar, a second submarine cable in Kuakata, and services from six private companies. These facilities channel internet connectivity to consumers through International Internet Gateways (IIGs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

The country has been facing significant internet disruptions since July 17, when mobile internet and 4G services were almost entirely halted. The issues began on the evening of July 16 with partial stoppages in various areas. After five days, limited broadband internet services were restored on Tuesday night.
