Tel Aviv, Oct 05 (V7N) — Despite Israel's claims to the contrary, satellite imagery has revealed significant damage to Israeli military installations following Iran's missile attacks earlier this week. Nearly 200 ballistic missiles targeted key Israeli airbases, causing severe destruction at Nevatim, Hetzarim, and Telnouf airbases, according to reports from international media, including the Associated Press (AP).
The satellite images, which have been widely circulated, show damage to hangars that housed Israel’s state-of-the-art warplanes, including the U.S.-supplied F-35 and F-15 Super Eagle fighter jets. The images display gaping holes in the roofs of hangars and debris scattered across the sites, particularly at Nevatim Airbase, located in southern Israel.
Israel has imposed a media blackout on the extent of the damage, but the images contradict Israeli official statements minimizing the impact of the missile strikes. Reports suggest that up to 20 Israeli fighter jets were destroyed, potentially costing Israel millions of dollars in losses. Nevatim, in particular, is a vital military installation where Israel stores its most advanced aircraft, including the F-35 jets provided by the U.S.
Despite claims that most of Iran’s missiles were intercepted by Israeli and U.S. defense systems, the satellite images show extensive damage to the airbases. One image from Nevatim Airbase clearly shows a large hole in the roof of a hangar near the main runway, with surrounding debris indicating a powerful missile strike.
Iran's missile attack was launched in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut last month. The strikes were intended as a warning to Israel to halt further military aggression. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed that Iran will respond forcefully to any future Israeli attacks.
This incident marks a significant escalation in the already volatile Middle East, with both sides bracing for further conflict as tensions rise across the region.
