Jammu and Kashmir, Oct 16 (V7N) – Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, has been officially sworn in as the Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant moment for the region as it receives governance for the first time since losing its special status. Abdullah took the oath on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Following the ceremony, Abdullah shared a photo of himself in his office on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with the caption, "I am back."

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha. The event took place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center in Srinagar and was attended by prominent political figures, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav.

This marks a return to power for Abdullah, who previously served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015, during which he held office for six years. His return to the leadership role comes at a time of heightened political activity in the region, following significant changes to its administrative status.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir are hopeful that Abdullah's leadership will bring stability and progress to the region after a prolonged period of uncertainty.
