Berlin, Jan 03, (V7N) - Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is expected to host a live interview with Alice Weidel, leader of Germany’s far-right party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), on his social media platform, X. The interview is planned ahead of Germany’s national election on February 23, 2025.
Musk’s support for the AfD, a party known for its anti-immigration and anti-Islamic views, has raised concerns in Germany, where most political parties refuse to work with the AfD, calling it dangerous and undemocratic. In December, Musk publicly endorsed the party, causing an uproar in Berlin.
A spokesperson for the AfD confirmed that Weidel had been in contact with Musk’s office, though no additional details have been provided. According to reports, the interview on X is expected to take place on January 10.
Musk has become more vocal in his support for far-right and anti-establishment movements in Europe. He has also supported parties like the UK’s Reform Party and made critical comments about German officials. For example, Musk called German Chancellor Olaf Scholz an "incompetent fool" and described President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as a "tyrant" for criticizing the AfD.
Musk hinted at the upcoming online conversation with Weidel in December, saying that it would provoke strong reactions from critics.
Other German political leaders, including Scholz, have condemned Musk’s involvement in the country’s political affairs, stressing that the election should be decided by German voters, not billionaires.
