Washington, Jan 23 (V7N)— Newly elected US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, threatening additional taxes, tariffs, and sanctions if Russia does not cease its ongoing war.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, President Trump stated, "Putin must stop this war, or severe action will be taken." He further urged the Russian leader to "settle it now" and described the conflict as "ridiculous," warning that the situation would deteriorate further if no resolution is reached.

This marks the first public statement from President Trump addressing Putin since assuming office. According to a report by Deutsche Welle, the US president underscored his willingness to take decisive measures to pressure Russia into ending the conflict.

"If you don't make a deal, I will have no choice but to impose higher taxes, tariffs, and more sanctions against Russia and other countries involved in the war," Trump added.

The statement signals a firm stance from the new US administration, raising the stakes for Russia amidst growing international concerns over the prolonged conflict.
