In a concerted effort to address the escalating crisis in Ukraine, Poland, Germany, and France are set to convene for a crucial summit in Berlin, Germany, on Friday. The meeting aims to strategize on providing assistance to Ukraine amidst mounting tensions in the region.

The summit will see the participation of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz, and French President Emmanuel Macron, according to reports from the British news agency Reuters.

Following a meeting with US President Joe Biden earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk underscored the importance of uniting partners to address the Ukraine issue. Tusk revealed his intention to convene discussions within the framework of the Weimar Triangle, involving Poland, Germany, and France, during an interview with state media TVP Info. Notably, this marks the first summit meeting of the alliance since Tusk assumed power in Poland.

Ahead of the summit, a German government source indicated that Chancellor Schultz and President Macron would engage in a private meeting before joining talks with Prime Minister Tusk. The discussions come amidst tensions between French and German leaders, particularly regarding the potential deployment of troops in Ukraine, a stance that Macron has not ruled out.

The upcoming summit follows a Weimar Triangle meeting held at the level of foreign ministers late last year, shortly after the formation of the Polish government. During that meeting, all three countries expressed their commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation in addressing regional challenges.
