In a shocking incident at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, a member of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) attempted suicide by firing his rifle. The security guard, identified as Sri Vishnu (25) from Telangana, was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the neck.

The incident occurred near gate number five of the airport on Thursday morning, as reported by Anandabazar newspaper. Panic ensued among airport staff and passengers upon hearing the gunshots around 5:30 a.m.

Fellow CISF personnel rushed to the scene and found Vishnu lying injured. He was quickly rescued and transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention. The security guard's INSAS rifle was recovered from the spot.

Authorities at the airport have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the motive behind Vishnu's suicide attempt. It remains unclear whether he was grappling with personal or work-related issues that led to this drastic action.

Vishnu, who joined CISF in 2022, is currently under observation at the hospital as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
