Tehran, June 29 (V7N) — The Iranian judiciary has confirmed that 71 people were killed in the Israeli airstrike on Evin Prison, Tehran’s most infamous political detention center, during the final stages of Israel’s recent air campaign against Iran.

The strike occurred on June 23, causing extensive damage to various prison buildings and claiming the lives of prison officials, military personnel, inmates, their relatives, as well as residents living near the prison.

The information was released by Iran’s judiciary on Sunday (June 29) and reported by Reuters. The strike has drawn widespread criticism, with Tehran accusing Israel of committing war crimes through its attack on a civilian detention facility.

Evin Prison is known for holding political prisoners, dissidents, and foreign nationals. Among those currently detained are two French citizens, Cecile Coler and Jacques Paris, who have been imprisoned for the past three years.

Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) have not publicly commented on the specific attack, but Iranian authorities have vowed to respond and to seek international condemnation of the strike.
