New York, Jan 03 (V7N)- New York Mayor Zohrab Mamdani has condemned the reported US military raid in Venezuela and the detention of President Nicolas Maduro, calling the action a violation of international law.
According to reports, US forces carried out the operation at midnight local time on Saturday (January 3), during which President Maduro was detained. The incident has triggered strong reactions both inside and outside the United States.
Mayor Mamdani, who was sworn in on the first day of the new year, commented on the Venezuela situation less than a week into office. Citing CNN News, Mamdani strongly criticized the detention of President Maduro and his wife, Celia Florence, describing it as a “despicable act of war.”
He said the operation constituted a violation of both domestic and international law, and warned that such actions could have serious consequences for global stability and international norms.
The US administration has yet to issue a detailed official response to the mayor’s remarks, while the situation in Venezuela remains tense amid growing international concern.
