Jakarta, Jan 18 (V7N) — The wreckage of a missing plane in Indonesia has been recovered, but authorities have yet to locate any of the 11 people on board.

The ATR 42-500 aircraft crashed on Saturday (January 17) in a foggy mountainous region of South Sulawesi province, Reuters reported. The plane had been flying from Jakarta to Makassar when it lost contact with air traffic control over the Maros region around 1:30 p.m. local time.

The flight carried eight crew members and three passengers, all employees of Indonesia's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.

Muhammad Arif Anwar, head of the South Sulawesi rescue agency, said approximately 1,200 rescue workers have been deployed to search for the missing passengers and crew. He emphasized that the highest priority is to locate the victims.

This tragedy follows a similar aviation incident last September, when a helicopter carrying six passengers and two crew members crashed shortly after takeoff from South Kalimantan, killing everyone on board.
