Kathmandu, Feb 24 (V7N)- At least 19 people have died and 25 others seriously injured after a tourist bus plunged 200 meters down a steep slope in Nepal on Monday.

The bus, carrying 44 passengers, lost control while traveling from Kathmandu to Pokhara. 17 people died on the spot, while two more succumbed to injuries after being taken to a hospital in Kathmandu. The remaining passengers are receiving treatment, with many in critical condition.

International Victims

The identities of the deceased include citizens from China, Britain, India, and New Zealand, highlighting the international impact of the tragedy. Authorities have warned that the death toll could rise as some injured passengers remain in critical condition.

Investigation Launched

Nepalese authorities have formed a committee to investigate the cause of the accident, aiming to determine whether mechanical failure, driver error, or other factors contributed to the crash.

Rescue and recovery operations continue, with emergency teams working along the steep and challenging terrain of the highway.
