Pakistan is grappling with an economic crisis marked by soaring debt, escalating inflation, and rising prices of essential commodities, placing a heavy burden on its populace. In response, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's administration has initiated various austerity measures aimed at streamlining government management. However, progress has been sluggish.

In the latest move, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has issued directives to ban the use of red carpets at government events, expressing dismay over their extravagant use for welcoming Union Ministers and senior government officials. Henceforth, red carpets will be reserved solely for welcoming state guests and foreign diplomats, in line with efforts to curb unnecessary expenditures.

This decision follows Prime Minister Sharif's earlier announcement last month, wherein he declared his decision not to accept a government salary, setting an example for other officials. Subsequently, the President and other Union Ministers followed suit, signaling a commitment to fiscal prudence amidst the country's economic challenges.

Shahbaz Sharif assumed office as Prime Minister of Pakistan for the second time last March, amidst a backdrop of political turmoil and electoral uncertainty. Despite facing hurdles, including navigating a fragmented political landscape and security concerns, Sharif's administration has been proactive in addressing the pressing economic issues facing the nation.

However, with the country still grappling with the aftermath of a divisive election and economic instability, Prime Minister Sharif appears determined to lead by example and implement measures aimed at fostering financial discipline and accountability within the government.
