Madrid, Mar 12 (V7N) – Spain has permanently withdrawn its ambassador from Israel amid the ongoing war involving Iran and Israel. The move was officially published in the Spanish official gazette on Tuesday.

A charge d’affaires will temporarily oversee the Spanish embassy in Tel Aviv, according to Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spain has been critical of Israel since the start of the Gaza conflict, leading to a deterioration of diplomatic relations between Madrid and Tel Aviv.

Last year, Spain took several measures in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, including:

  • Banning arms exports to Israel.

  • Prohibiting entry to individuals involved in alleged war crimes in Gaza.

  • Banning imports of goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza.

The withdrawal of the ambassador underscores Spain’s strong diplomatic stance against Israel in the current Middle East tensions.
