Washington, Mar 16 (V7N) — US President Donald Trump has said that while some countries are eager to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, others have shown little interest despite long-standing support from the United States.

Speaking at a briefing on the latest situation involving Iran on Monday, Trump stated, “Many countries have told me about helping. Some are very interested, and some are not. The level of their enthusiasm is very important to me.”

He added that several nations benefiting from US support and protection over the years have not demonstrated strong willingness to participate in efforts to ensure stability in the strategic waterway.

Meanwhile, some US allies indicated on Monday that they currently have no plans to deploy naval forces to the region.

Trump also claimed that US forces have destroyed 30 mine-laying vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating tensions in the area.
