Tehran, Mar 17 (V7N) – Iran’s navy has warned of “severe” retaliation following the killing of sailors in what the country describes as a US attack.

Iranian navy chief Shahram Irani stated that the United States would face a stern response after a dozen Iranian sailors were killed. “We will not forget this crime of the enemy, and the blood of our martyrs will be avenged,” he said. “Let the enemy know that we will strike them from a place they cannot even imagine.”

The threat comes after the Iranian warship Iris Dena sank in international waters off Sri Lanka. The vessel was reportedly torpedoed by a US submarine following a joint naval exercise with India in the Indian Ocean, resulting in the deaths of at least 87 sailors. While 32 crew members were rescued, several others remain missing.
