Doha, Mar 22 (V7N) – A military helicopter has crashed into the waters of Qatar due to a technical fault, prompting an urgent search and rescue operation, authorities said.
According to a statement from the Qatar Ministry of Defence, the helicopter went down while performing a routine duty. A large-scale operation is currently underway to locate and rescue the crew and passengers on board.
The ministry confirmed that immediate steps were taken following the incident to determine the location of those missing and to strengthen rescue efforts. However, no official information has yet been released regarding casualties or the exact number of people on board.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. In recent weeks, Iran has reportedly launched missile and drone attacks targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, although most failed to reach their targets.
Despite the tense security environment, Qatari authorities have clarified that the helicopter crash was not the result of any attack, but rather caused by a mechanical failure.
The situation remains under close monitoring as rescue teams continue their efforts.
