Beijing, Apr 13 (V7N) – China has called on all parties to exercise restraint regarding rising tensions over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the key waterway must remain open for global trade and energy transport.
According to Reuters, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks on Monday in response to recent US statements threatening restrictions on the strategic route.
He said the Strait of Hormuz is a vital international corridor and that maintaining stability there serves the interests of the global community. He added that ensuring free and safe navigation is essential for global energy security.
Guo further noted that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has contributed to disruptions in maritime traffic and stressed that an early ceasefire is the only sustainable solution.
China also expressed its willingness to play a constructive role in reducing tensions and promoting dialogue among concerned parties, urging all sides to avoid escalation and act with restraint.
