A tragic collision between a freight truck and a passenger bus in southwestern Bolivia has left at least 14 people dead and two others injured, according to local authorities. The incident occurred on a busy road connecting the Andean cities of Oruro and Potosi.

Local police official Julio Lorea confirmed the grim toll, revealing that among the victims were nine women, four men, and one child. The collision unfolded when the truck, laden with salt, veered out of control and collided head-on with the oncoming bus.

Describing the scene, Lorea recounted how the truck, unable to maintain its lane, crossed into the path of the bus, resulting in the devastating crash. The collision caused extensive damage and loss of life, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving on Bolivia's roadways.

Adet Cabrera, another local police officer at the scene, attributed the accident to a combination of factors, including failure to stay in the proper lane, excessive speed, and a lack of caution. The surviving driver of the truck has been placed under police guard and transported to a private clinic for medical treatment.

The incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and heightened vigilance among drivers, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
