Moscow, May 05 (V7N) — Russia has announced a 48-hour ceasefire in its ongoing war with Ukraine to mark the anniversary of victory in World War II.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the ceasefire will be observed on May 8 and 9, coinciding with the country’s annual Victory Day celebrations. The occasion is traditionally marked by large-scale military parades in Moscow.
However, there has been no formal agreement from Ukraine regarding the ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on social media that Kyiv has not received any official proposal from Russia on the matter.
Zelensky emphasized that human life should take precedence over ceremonial events and called on Russian leadership to take meaningful and practical steps toward ending the war.
The announcement comes amid continued hostilities between the two countries, with uncertainty remaining over whether the temporary ceasefire will be observed on both sides.
