Washington, Jun 11 (V7N) – The United States has launched a new series of strikes on multiple targets inside Iran following a warning from U.S. President Donald Trump, further escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attacks were carried out in self-defense and were a response to what it described as Iran's continued aggression in the region.

Iranian media reported that explosions were heard in several areas across the country, including the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, the island of Qeshm, and the southern cities of Sirik and Minab. Reports also indicated that air defense systems were activated in western parts of the capital, Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported that the country's military had ordered the complete closure of maritime traffic through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The reported restriction applies to oil tankers as well as commercial vessels.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important energy transit routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil exports. Any disruption to shipping through the waterway is likely to have major implications for international energy markets and global trade.

Earlier, President Trump warned that the U.S. military was prepared to launch additional attacks against Iran. He claimed that Tehran had taken too long to negotiate an agreement that could have been beneficial and said Iran would now have to face the consequences.

The latest developments have heightened concerns of a broader regional conflict, as tensions continue to rise between Washington and Tehran amid ongoing military and diplomatic confrontations.
