Stade, Germany, Jun 30 (V7N) — At least six people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a mother and child center in the northern German city of Stade on Monday, authorities said.
According to preliminary reports, a gunman opened fire inside the facility before security forces responded to the scene following emergency calls.
Police arrested three people, including the suspected gunman, after the attack.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been triggered by a family dispute, although the exact motive has yet to be determined. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident.
Police records indicate that the suspected attacker, a 45-year-old German citizen of Turkish origin, had previously served a prison sentence.
The attack has shocked the city of Stade, which has a population of around 50,000 people, and sparked widespread concern among residents.
However, law enforcement officials said there is currently no ongoing threat to the public and that the situation has been brought under control while the investigation continues.
