Washington, Jun 30 (V7N) — Democratic Congressman Greg Casar has called for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel, announcing that he will support a congressional amendment seeking to halt American military assistance to the country.
In a social media post on Monday (June 29), the Texas lawmaker accused the Israeli government of committing war crimes in Gaza and drawing the United States into its confrontation with Iran.
"The Israeli government has committed war crimes in Gaza and has helped pull the United States into a war with Iran. The American people's money should not be used to buy more weapons for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," Casar wrote.
Proposal Seeks to End $3.3 Billion in Annual Military Aid
The amendment was introduced by Republican Congressman Thomas Massie. It proposes ending the $3.3 billion in annual U.S. military assistance provided to Israel.
The proposal also seeks to remove funding allocated to Israel under the State Department appropriations bill. The measure is expected to come before the House of Representatives for a vote later this week.
Political Context
Thomas Massie recently lost his Republican primary election to a challenger backed by President Donald Trump. The race became one of the most expensive House primaries in U.S. history, with campaign spending exceeding $32 million, much of it funded by pro-Israel political groups and organizations supporting Trump.
It remains unclear how much support Massie's amendment will receive in Congress. However, the proposal is expected to intensify debate among U.S. lawmakers, who remain deeply divided over the war in Gaza, tensions between Iran and Israel, and broader American policy in the Middle East.
