Tehran, Jul 03 (V7N) — Iran's Armed Forces Chief, Major General Amir Hatami, has vowed that Iran will avenge the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declaring that the country's resolve has only grown stronger.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Khamenei's funeral in Tehran on Friday, Hatami warned that Iran would retaliate against what he described as its enemies.
According to Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera, Hatami said, "The fire of revenge for the blood of the martyred leader Khamenei is burning in our hearts. With even stronger conviction, we inform the enemies of the Iranian nation—the United States and the criminal Zionist regime—that we will avenge his blood."
Khamenei was killed in an airstrike in Iran on February 28. Tehran has alleged that the attack was carried out jointly by the United States and Israel and claims that the conflict against Iran began with that strike.
Since Khamenei's death, Iranian leaders have repeatedly adopted a hardline stance toward Washington and Tel Aviv. Hatami's latest remarks further underscore Tehran's continued commitment to retaliate for the killing of its former supreme leader.
