Tehran, Jul 14 (V7N)- Iran has claimed to have carried out drone strikes on US military facilities in Kuwait and launched cruise missiles at a US naval vessel, further escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to Iran's state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the attacks were announced on Monday (July 13) in response to what Tehran described as repeated US military actions against Iran.
In a statement, the Iranian military said a drone strike targeted a US military base in Kuwait. The alleged targets included the base's communications systems, fuel storage facilities, a Patriot air defense system, a surveillance tower and an ammunition depot.
Iran said the operation was carried out as retaliation for what it called continued US aggression.
Separately, the Iranian Navy claimed it launched cruise missiles at what it described as a US "enemy vessel" following alleged US missile strikes on Iranian military installations.
However, the reported attacks on the US base in Kuwait and the claimed missile strike on a US naval vessel have not been independently verified.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) had not immediately commented on the claims, and US authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the reported incidents.
Security analysts say any direct military exchange between Iran and the United States could significantly worsen the already fragile security situation in the Gulf region.
They warn that renewed hostilities could threaten key international shipping routes and increase the risk of a broader regional conflict, with potential consequences for global energy supplies and maritime trade.
