Washington, Jul 17 (V7N) — U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States is achieving a "big victory" in its confrontation with Iran, saying the outcome of the ongoing campaign will become evident in the near future.
According to The Times of Israel, Trump made the remarks during a speech on election security.
"We are winning a big victory in Iran, and we will see the results of that effort very, very soon," the U.S. president said.
Trump also said that recent investments have made the United States armed forces the most powerful and capable military in the world.
His comments came as the United States reportedly expanded its air campaign against Iran, launching another wave of overnight strikes on strategic targets.
The latest attacks reportedly included strikes on key infrastructure, including several bridges, as Washington seeks to increase pressure on Tehran.
According to reports, the U.S. campaign is aimed at reducing Iran's ability to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.
Iran has not immediately responded to Trump's latest remarks.
