Washington, Jul 22 (V7N) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) says it has carried out airstrikes inside Iran for the 11th consecutive night, claiming the operations are aimed at reducing Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a CENTCOM statement cited by Al Jazeera, the latest strikes targeted Iranian military operations centers, naval bases, fighter aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure.
The US military alleged that Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months, putting hundreds of sailors at risk and disrupting the security of one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes.
CENTCOM said the Strait of Hormuz remains open to commercial navigation despite the ongoing conflict.
The command also stated that since the beginning of May, US forces have assisted approximately 900 commercial vessels and helped ensure the safe passage of around 450 million barrels of crude oil through the strategic waterway.
The latest airstrikes come amid continued military escalation between the United States and Iran, with both sides exchanging attacks across the region in recent days.
